The Plenary Session on Tuesday was dedicated to the memory of Douglas W. MacEwan, MD.

Dr. MacEwan was an RSNA past president and was known for his dedication to his profession and community and his unwavering support of the arts.

Following service in World War II as a flying officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Dr. MacEwan earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and a medical degree at McGill University in Montreal. He pursued a radiology specialty and began his career as a radiologist at Montreal Children’s Hospital, later joining the staff of Montreal General Hospital.

Dr. MacEwan was named head of the Department of Radiology at the Winnipeg General Hospital and chair of the Department of Radiology in the faculty of medicine at the University of Manitoba.

He is credited with making radiology residency at the University of Manitoba a much sought-after opportunity and contributing to the department’s reputation as a leader in North America.

Dr. MacEwan was a 1991 RSNA Gold Medal recipient and served as president of the Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments. He was active with other radiologic organizations including the Canadian Association of Radiologists and the American College of Radiology.
