Highlighting Health Equity Topics at RSNA 2025

Sessions offer insights and strategies for building a supportive and inclusive specialty

The RSNA Health Equity Committee (HEC) has developed a robust offering of scientific and educational content for the annual meeting. Beneficial to members in all career levels, these sessions are focused on improving patient outcomes and building a supportive pathway and inclusive culture within the radiology workforce. 

Founded in 2022, the HEC is committed to using a scientific, measured, results-oriented approach to reduce health-related imaging disparities and empower RSNA members to do the same.

This year, the HEC has focused on increasing the opportunities for RSNA members to embed health equity into their practices, according to Ashley Prosper, MD, chair of the HEC.

“As a committee, we’ve sponsored community service events at recent RSNA annual meetings, including the assembly of winter kits supporting a local Chicago nonprofit, Cradles to Crayons,” said Dr. Prosper, who is also an associate professor of radiology at the University of California, Los Angeles. “We have also championed the sponsorship of a local chapter of Walk with a Doc, which partners physicians with community members for neighborhood walks during which participants are provided with health education in an informal, approachable setting.”

Dr. Prosper said she and the other HEC members look forward to hosting several education sessions during RSNA 2025 that will share best practices for radiology health equity. “We’re also excited to launch an EdCentral educational channel highlighting digital resources for radiology health equity that members can take advantage of throughout the year,” she added.

According to Dr. Prosper, health equity in clinical work and research has never been more important and radiologists and RSNA have a strong commitment to this effort. “While we are committed to personalized health care targeted to the individual patient, as our capabilities expand, we’re moving further in the direction of providing health care at the population level,” Dr. Prosper said. “Examining the ways in which these streams of health care are delivered and exploring ways to improve the penetration of our incredible image-based advances into the communities that we serve is critically important. Ensuring that research is performed equitably helps to inform us of the true impact of the scientific advances we are striving towards.”
