A new endowment supports the next generation of radiology educators
RSNA is proud to announce the establishment of the Douglas W. MacEwan Rising Star Track, made possible through a generous endowment from the family of the late Douglas W. MacEwan, MD—renowned educator, past RSNA president and Gold Medal recipient. This enduring gift honors Dr. MacEwan’s lifelong commitment to advancing radiology through mentorship, scholarship and service.
Created within the RSNA Rising Star Award, the new track provides a dedicated educational pathway for rising leaders in academic radiology. Each Rising Star Award recipient who develops educational sessions for the track and attends the annual meeting will receive a $1,500 travel stipend, supporting up to ten future educators each year. This investment ensures that promising radiology educators have access to meaningful opportunities for professional development and leadership.
The initiative was inspired by Dr. MacEwan’s daughter, Eleanor Wiebe, who shared that the program “captures exactly what my dad would think important.” She recalled accompanying her father to RSNA meetings, where his passion for mentorship and global collaboration left a lasting mark on generations of radiologists.
The Douglas W. MacEwan Rising Star Track honors the vision of a leader whose influence helped shape the course of radiology education—and now creates new pathways for others to carry his work forward. It stands as both a tribute and a call to the next generation of educators who will advance the specialty.
