Imaging the Individual starts this week when we celebrate the role of radiology in precision medicine

Umar Mahmood, MD, PhD

We are united by shared connections yet defined by our individuality. The continuum from community to self, informed by rapidly expanding medical knowledge, frames the theme of this year’s meeting.

Our collective discoveries are uncovering the core drivers of disease, and precision medicine now allows us to tailor treatments for each patient with unprecedented fidelity. At RSNA 2025, we’ll explore how these advances can elevate our specialty and create a healthier world for all.

The plenary program kicks off on Sunday afternoon with my President’s Address, followed by Geoffrey Ginsburg, MD, PhD, who will highlight the scientific impact of the NIH All of Us Research Program to enable individualized disease prevention and care. After the session, head up to the Connections Center and Learning Center and join your colleagues at the Welcome Reception.

On Monday, Tait Shanafelt, MD, will discuss physician distress and approaches to promote clinical well-being. On Tuesday, Zeynep Tufekci, PhD, MA, will share her insights on AI’s true threats and Alexander Drzezga, MD, will discuss the imaging methods and molecular imaging procedures that can help in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases.

Also on Tuesday, AAPM colleagues will discuss collaboration among radiologists, physicists and technologists on the first cone-beam breast CT and multi-X-ray source array technology. Challenge your diagnostic skills at the Image Interpretation Session, then join the popular plenary game show, The PACS and the Furious: An RSNA Family Feud. Meanwhile, Fast 5 session presenters—selected with your help—will deliver rapid-fire talks on non-clinical topics related to radiology.

Don’t miss the hot topic research presented in the Learning Center Theaters throughout the week. The topics cover everything from image-guided oncologic therapies to advances in low- and non-contrast techniques to opportunistic screening.

While you’re in the Learning Center, take in the hundreds of science posters and education exhibits across every subspecialty and don’t miss The Art of Imaging, the radiology-themed art exhibition.

I hope to see you in the exhibit halls discovering inspiring solutions for your practice needs. Don’t miss the AI Showcase, the prime destination to interact with the latest AI products and solutions, engage with industry leaders and explore the hottest topics in AI, machine learning and deep learning. There are also several interoperability demonstrations showcasing new tools and practice enhancements enabled by AI in real world, clinical scenarios.

On Tuesday afternoon, I encourage you to take part in the Exhibit Hall Social, a lively opportunity to more deeply explore the latest innovations from our exhibitors.

Then on Wednesday, join us for RSNA After Dark—our signature late-night event featuring drinks, light fare, music and dancing. It’s an excellent chance to unwind, connect with your peers in a relaxed setting and celebrate the shared spirit of our community.

RSNA 2025 offers an unparalleled opportunity to engage with the very best in radiology education, research and innovation. It has been a true privilege to serve as your president this year and I look forward to joining you as we experience RSNA 2025 together.
