Jeffrey S. Klein, MD, is RSNA president.
A renowned expert in thoracic imaging and dedicated educator, Dr. Klein is a consultant in the Department of Radiology at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He is the former vice chair of the Department of Radiology, former chief of thoracic imaging and the former A. Bradley Soule and John P. Tampas Green and Gold Professor of Radiology, at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.
As RSNA president, Dr. Klein will highlight the vital role radiologists play as the doctor’s doctor—bridging specialties and guiding care across the medical spectrum. His vision centers on radiology’s place at the heart of medicine, where collaboration fuels discovery and strengthens the entire health care team.
Dr. Klein served as editor of RadioGraphics and as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Thoracic Imaging. Dr. Klein is a longtime manuscript reviewer for Radiology and RadioGraphics, as well as the American Journal of Roentgenology, Journal of Thoracic Oncology, Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology and Cancer. He received a 2010 Radiology Editor’s Recognition Award for reviewing with special distinction.
Dr. Klein held several leadership positions with and is a former president of the Society of Thoracic Radiology. He served on the American College of Radiology committee on CT accreditation and as an examiner for the American Board of Radiology. He was part of an expert panel convened by the U.S. Department of Justice regarding the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act of 1990, a group that developed a protocol for high-resolution CT examinations of Navajo uranium miners.
Esteemed for his dedication to radiology education, Dr. Klein has received teaching awards from the UCSF Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, the University of Vermont College of Medicine and SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
From 2001 to 2005, Dr. Klein represented Vermont on the American College of Chest Physicians Council of Governors, and from 2002–2010, he was a member of the Data Safety and Monitoring Board for the Lung Cancer Screening Trial of the National Cancer Institute. He was elected to membership in the Fleischner Society for Thoracic Imaging and Diagnosis in 2011.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College, Dr. Klein earned his medical degree at the State University of New York (SUNY) Health Downstate Medical Center. He completed an internship at the Staten Island University Hospital, a residency at the SUNY Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, and a fellowship in thoracic radiology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center.
